Tracking changes not merged

Hi
Sent a document to a colleague with track changes on it came back withtheir
changed marked up. I then made a few changes myself. Both sets of changes
were in same colour.
I accepted all changes but it only accepted the changes I had made , not my
colleagues.
I am sure that in Word 97 this didnt happen . Is there a part of the proces
I am missing?
thanks

My guess is that your colleague had "Track Changes" turned off when he/she
made his/her changes, and manually formatted those changes to look like your
tracked changes. What version of Word are you using? In recent versions,
you can test this theory by changing the view from "Final Showing Markup" to
"Final" on the Reviewing toolbar. If your colleague's changes are tracked
changes, then deleted text should disappear and inserted text should change
to black (or whatever color the unchanged text is). If your colleague's
changes are not tracked changes, then there won't be any difference when you
change to Final view.
