To ensure that our staff is not overallocated and they have time to complete
their daily operational activities, we use a separate project schedule that
reflects a percentage of their time being allocated to these activities.
Therefore, a person who works an 8 hour day but is only available (on
average) 25% of the time to work on projects, is scheduled for a task that
takes up 6 of the 8 hours in a given day for "Daily Work". I'm sure you can
see the problem with this....
We are not in an environment that would permit staff to manage their own
calendars so we need something that can be managed by a Resource Manager
(which happens to be me). But we often run into individuals that may be more
or less available depending on the time of year. Right now, we don't have a
good way to track that since these Administrative are flat contoured by
default.
Does anyone have any other ideas for managing this?
