trouble opening mdi files with Office xp professional

I am running Office XP Professional on Win XP and cannot open MDI files with
Office Document Imaging program. It states it will only open TIFF files.

Help. My job is riding on me being able to get into these files.

Unfortunately only Office 2003's version of MS Office Document Imaging
can read or write the .MDI file format.
