Troubleshooting paste function (from browser)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

All of a sudden, it's become impossible for me to paste into a Word file a section I've selected from my browser (same problem arises with both Firefox and Safari). I can copy from browser to Stickie, but in that case, can't copy from Stickie to Word. Any ideas?

Are your Office & OS X installations fully updated?

OS X = 10.4.11
Office X = 10.9.1

You might also run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions.

Are you sure the thing you are copying is "text"?

Firefox and Safari do not seem to want to pass anything but text to Word...
