Two backgrounds in a template

The template I'm making seems to have to backgrounds - how can I remove the
one I don't want? (when I open a new presentation a box comes up, giving me a
choice if I want to keep them both or not)

Try going into the Slide master and deleting it (View, Master, Slide
Master). Normally when you delete all of the slides containing a design (in
PPT 2002 or 2003), the Slide master goes away. That is unless you have it
set to "Preserve Master". You can right-click the thumbnail to the left and
see if "Preserve Master" is selected. It is also a button on the Slide
Master toolbar.

Keep in mind that if your template has this set up you will need to open the
template, change it, then resave and close the template so future
presentations created from it are okay.

Holler back if that doesn't help.

So glad to hear back from someone who might be able to help!

Followed your instructions, but I'm not quite there yet unfortunately.

The file looks fine in normal view: a front page and a contents (first)
page. In master view, when I look on the clip board to the left, there are
three pages: front page and unwanted contents page, linked toghether by a
grey line/link, and the contents page I want. If I delete the unwanted
contents page, it deletes the front page as well (must have something to do
with the grey link...?), and that I'd like to keep.

Did not quite use the proper ppt terminology in my latest reply... Slide
master and Title master are what I mean, not contents page and front page.

Title and slide masters are linked as pairs -- that's what that little grey
line means. Add a title master to the slide master that you want to keep by
clicking on that slide master in the thumbnail pane and then going to
Insert/New Title Master.

After you've added that new title master, use the Format Painter (paintbrush
icon) to "paint" the style of the existing master to the new master. To do
this, select the old title master in the thumbnail pane, click the Format
Painter, then click the new title master in the thumbnail pane. You may have
to reset a few things on this master, but most stuff should transfer.

Sorry, but just got back to my desk. I had a class I had to teach. Did you
get it figured out? (Thanks, Sonia)
