Unable to Insert a Sound File into PPoint 2000 slide

I would like to insert a sound file into a slide, but have
been unable to do so. The sound is a song samples in both
RealOne Player and Windows Media Player formats. How do I
save the file, and in what format to allow me to insert
the sound and play automatically when the slide runs?
