Unable to open docs file

I received an email with an attachment with docx file type. I was told it is
a word document but I cannot open it. Please help.

I am using 'Windows XP Home Edition' and Microsoft Office 2000.

I'm not sure why you're asking a PC Word question in a Mac Excel newsgroup
but it must be your lucky day The problem is simply that Word 2000 isn't
equipped to handle Open XML (.___x) file format. You need the Compatibility
Pack which you'll find here:

In the future you should direct your inquiries on Win Office to the
appropriate Windows Office group. Bookmark this page for reference:

I did log into Microsoft but did not realize I was in Mac excel newsgroup.
I was so desperate to find a fix. This was helpful. Thanks Bob.

No problem! Glad to help. There are quite a few similarities in PC/Mac
Office - many aspects are identical - and a number of us work both sides of
