Unable to open project in write mode

Hi

I'm stuck in a weird loop here. I have a project which, if I try to open it,
Project Pro 2007 informs me "cannot be opened in read-write mode because a
previous checkin for this project is not complete". However, I see no
pending jobs in the queue. Also, if I get the list of projects using
ProjTool, the project doesn't seem to be checked out.. yet I get an error
telling me that the project is checked out in another session if I try to
check it out - and if I try to check it it, ProjTool tells me "Something is
wrong in the Queue .Check/clear the queue and then redo your action". I have
no pending things in the queue so there's nothing to be cleared and I have
already restarted the queue service to no avail.

I have another project which is in a similar situation, but in that instance
ProjTool actually lists that the projet is checked out - yet beside that it
behaves in the exact same way and is thus also competely locked.

Is there another way to force checking the project so that project server
stops me from working with those projects?

Regards
Stephan

Hi

It gets better: I figured I'd reboot to be on the safe side.. however, the
situation still presents itself in the same manner. Using ProjTool I can
however access the project (which seems to check it out), then check it in
again. Now the project that still showed up as checked out in ProjTool no
longer is checked out as far as ProjTool is concerned. Project Client still
refuses to open it though. Likewise, for the project which doesn't show up
as checked out (and didn't before the reboot), I can check it out using
ProjTool, and check it in again and it all works fine, however Project
Client still complains about the an incomplete checkin.

At this point, how can I access the project in project client again?

Stephan

Stephan-
Yea, we had the same problem. Below is what I had to publish to our users
as we were getting too many angry support calls about it. While you already
have figured out how to get out of it, the latter part shows how to prevent
it.

First to get out of Read-Only Mode:

1) Launch MS Project Professional 2007.
2) Connect to the server.
3)When the blank project workspace opens, click Tools> Local Project Cache >
Cache Cleanup... .
4)If your project is listed under ‘Project not checked out by you’, click
the project name to highlight it.
5)Click on the now highlighted button 'Remove from Cache'.
6)When done, click Ok.
7)Now select File > Open
8)Double-click on the 'Retrieve the list of all projects from Project Server'
9)Double-click your project to open

Now how to prevent it:

1)When saving your Project File, click File > Save. WAIT for a status line
at the bottom of the window frame to indicate Save Job Completed Successfully.
2)Once the save is complete, click File > Close, DO NOT click File> Exit
and DO NOT click the 'X' in the upper right corner.
3)A pop-up will appear asking if you want to check-in the project. Click
‘Yes’.
4)Wait for the project space to clear and then you can close MS Project
using File>Exit or the “X†in the upper right corner.
