Unable to start office 2003 applications

Just installed Office 2003 and sp1. When attempting to start the office
applications, WORD, EXCEL, etc I get a very unusual reaction for the sttempt.
Seem to be in a loop and each application attempts to start again and again
as in looping. Any suggestions?
