Uninstalling Outlook express

How do you uninstall outlook express if it isn't listed
on your control panel/add/remove programs list?

Depends on the operating system you are running. But either way it's not
recommended practise.

For more assistance ask in an Outlook Express forum. This is an Microsoft
Office Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

To my knowledge, you should never uninstall Outlook Express as it has some
core components used by Microsoft Outlook to transact mail. You may delete
the Express icons, even delete the DBX files like INBOX and DELETED ITEMS
and the like to recover a little HD space, but the program should not be
removed as a component of IE. Indeed, while I was supporting Express and
Outlook and AOL's "New and Improved version FIVE pont Zero" didn't include
the Internet Explorer componenet of Outlook Express it caused headaches for
AOL users who had POP3 accounts outside of their AOL addresses, their
MSOutlook 2000 quit working and became a contacts manager and calendering
program only untill we reinstalled OE.

I have tried to remove it using the Add/Remove programme and it seems to

have disappeared from that box but it is still active and receiving all my
mail. It pops up every time I try to open Outlook. This happened when I
upraded to Office 2000.Standard. I would appreciate some advice.

If you are using Windows XP then you CANNOT un-install OE. You need to go to
Control Panel-Internet Options-Programs and make sure that Outlook (not
Outlook EXPRESS) is the default mail client.

Thanks to Gordon but I have Windows 98 2nd edition and did make OE my default but it still didn't work. Any more suggestions

You cannot uninstall Outlook Express. Outlook will not work correctly
without OE installed.

As a last resort, go into Outlook Express and delete your mail account. That
will certainly stop OE from getting your mail.
