Unsuccessful installation of Office 2003 critical update?

I just installed Office 2003 on two computers in my home
network. I then attempted to download and install any
Office 2003 updates. There was one critical update
listed: 'Office 2003 Critical Update KB828041'.

The download itself was successful, and the installation
completed (as best I could tell), but the Installation
Result window showed 'Installation Unsuccessful'. There
was no reason or clue as to why.

The same result occurred on both of my PCs.

Both PCs have Office 2003 activated, and both seem to be
running fine otherwise.

Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions how
to pinpoint the cause of my installation error? (Is
there a log generated during the update that I could
examine?)

Hello, I Have activated and installed office 2003
standard [retail] on one machine, I Got the same
problem , downloaded fine but when installed, said
installation unsuccessful..same problem so I Downloaded
the update file on my hard driver and then installed the
update, went fine without errors....

question: you say yo activated your copy of office 2003
on 2 machines ...is that 2 desktop machines or 1 laptop
and one desktop like microsoft says, curious as i have a
second computer i would like to install office 2003 on
but can not get a straight answer from anyone if possible
to install on 2 desktop computers
