Office 2003 Critical Update: KB828041

Just installed Office 2003 Student/Teacher edition on an
XP OS. Went to update area, MS suggested update
with "Office 2003 Critical Update: KB828041" and "Outlook
2003 Junk E-mail Filter Update: KB832333"

However, unable to intstall: "Installation Unsuccessful"
Tried after restart several times, installed other
critical updates fine, but above updates no go.

Help?

I had the same problem on Office 2003 Student/Teacher. As
to Office 2003 Critical Update KB828041 I could not get
the update to work for the office update site. I had to
copy the update to my hard-drive and then install it. The
link is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyId=722C7A55-E541-44CC-97CB-
572859346DEE&displaylang=en. I hope this solves your
problem. If you have a problem with this link search for
office 2003 Student/Teacher update.
As for the "Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter Update:
KB832333" mine was 0kbyte and therefore was not needed.

Royce was mistaken to think he didn't need Update KB832333
(for junk mail) just because the Office update checker
showed that it "was 0kbyte and therefore was not needed."
It was downloaded the first time he tried to auto-install
all updates, but it was never installed. The error report
about the unsuccessful installation lists all the failed
updates, and KB832333 is one of them. For some reason, the
updater succeeds in downloading KB832333 to the temp
location on the hard drive, but not KB828041, and then
installs neither.

I downloaded KB832333 manually and installed it, just as
Royce did for KB828041. The download link is
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;832333. Scroll down to the section that tells you how
to install just KB832333.

Hi, guys,

If you are using Office Update, this is a known issue that's being worked
on. Work is being done to correct the issue on Office Update, but until
that happens you can install by using the Download Center to download the
patch directly. It can then be installed without error from the local hard
drive.
