Update category field

I imported a contact list from another program. Is there a way to add a
category to the contact list without going into each contact and doing it
individually?

I have over 1900 contacts, so this would be very tedious.

Select all the contacts you want to update (maybe sort on the Created data),
right-click, then choose Categories.
