update fields in headers & footers using vba

Using Word 2003 on Windows XP

We have a bunch of big documents we are converting from paper to electronic.
These documents switch back and forth frequently between text in portrait,
and drawings in landscape. All pages have their headers and footers in
“portrait†(so we can’t simply select “same as previousâ€). We have some
information in the headers and footers that has to be changed each time we
make revisions to the document.

I am trying to use ASK fields and have REF fields in the headers/footers to
update this info when required. I’m having trouble getting the REF fields to
update. Doing a <CNTL>A and then an <f9> does not update the fields in the
headers.

I need a macro that will enter the headers AND footers, and update the
fields in ALL the headers/footers.

If I'm doing this the hard way, I'm open to alternative suggestions.

thanks

See the macro at http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm. This
will pick up all headers/footers.

That did the job (once I put the landscape headers in a table in a frame),
Thank You.

But I was really hoping for was something that only updated fields in the
header/footer. Anyone have a suggestion for that?
