Upgrade office mac

Version: Older version
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I just bought a new iMAC computer with Snow Leopard; on my old Apple computer, I was using office mac 2001. This new computer will not let me install office mac 2001. Can I install an upgrade program for office 2004 on it; will that work? I really would rather not go to 2008 office. Thanks.

Yes, if you can find a copy of the Office 2004 Upgrade package you can
install it using your Office 2001 CD as the validation version -- just pop
the CD in the drive & point the installer to it when prompted for the
location of the qualifying prior version.

FWIW: Unless you need VBA support or have some other compelling reason to
use Office 2004 you're probably better off to upgrade to Office 2008.

Can we go the other way around? If I need a version of Office with
VB, can I buy a 2001 upgrade and install it along with my Office 2004?

Hmmm, I don't have a CD, I installed using the license my work
supplied me with a download.

The copy fomr work would not qualify for any upgrade purchase on your part.
You are not the legal owner of that license.

If you don't need Exchange, the Student & Teacher version of 04 is $249 at
Amazon.

Further to Diane's reply, no, for at least 2 other reasons. First, I don't
see how the installer for an earlier version could recognize a *later*
version as qualifying for the installation. Second, Office 2004 will not run
on Classic (Mac OS prior to OS X 10.0) & Office 2001 won't run in OS X other
than those earliier releases that support the Classic environment.

Besides, Office 2004 *has* support for VBA, do why would you want to
"dongrade" to 2001 in the first place? It's Office 2008 which has no VBA
support.

My confusion - could I add an "upgrade" to 2004 when I am using 2008?
