"Upgrade" to Office 97 Professional Edition Failed

My wife has an old notebook computer circa 1998 which has served her well. It
operates under Windows 98SE and she uses Word 97 because she cannot live
without "Kairu the Dolphin" as her Office Assistant.

I just bought her a new Sony Vaio A290 to replace it and I am trying to set
it up for her.

The new Vaio comes with Windows XP Home, Microsoft Works 7.0, and a 90-day
trial version of Office 2003 products. The computer does not have a diskette
drive.

I want to install Word 97 for her so she can continue to use her Kairu
Dolphin Assitant. The good news is that I still have our Microsoft Office 97
Professional Edition CD. The bad news is that it is an "upgrade" version and
it is not recognizing the newer MS Works or anything else on the computer as
a valid upgradeable product. Therefore, the installation fails.

I cannot find an older software. I do have a Microsoft Word 2000 CD which
came with my desktop.

Can anyone help me get the Word 97 installation to work for her? Is there a
file the hard drive of her old notebook installation of Word 97 that I can
transfer to her new hard drive so that the installation will work?

Thank you
