USING AN UMLAUT

I am using Microsoft 2000, access to create a German English Dictionary of
words I have learn't. Can anyone help? on how to put an Umlaut " over
different letters.
I have read other entries but they refer to Word not Access

from ron rumney..... For anyone interested, the below did work, I downloaded
Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator, opened a German keyboard and noted the
key reference data i.e. U+oofc etc I then opened a uk keyboard layout and
added the key symbols to coresponding keys, so now for a ß I just press Ctrl
+ Alt with the letter S.
