Using fields adn templates

OK I've created some templates, .DOT, and I use fields to
add the date when I create a new document from the
template. BUt now it just stays a field and is updated
eerytime I reopen the document. How do I get a template
that just inserts the date one time?

Make sure you use a CREATEDATE field instead of a DATE field. See
