I will be buying a laptop for my son for college and want to know if office
2007 from his 32 bit computer will work on a 64 bit system. Probably Vista.

Yes. There is no 64 bit version.

Office 2007 is only a 32-bit application. There is no such thing
as a 64-bit version of Office 2007. Office 2007 can run on a
64-bit version of Windows (XP, 2003 Server, or Vista). But the
"Send to OneNote 2007" printer driver, "Internet Fax", and
"Groove Folder Synchronization" features are not available when
Office 2007 is running on 64-bit Windows. And anecdotal evidence
suggests that having more than 4 gigabytes of RAM with 64-bit
Windows can confuse Office 2007.

See the other responses but also, if the version on your son's 32 bit
computer is OEM you can't transfer it to any other computer. Look at the
license key label's lower right corner or the email that was sent when the
product was purchased and if it says OEM or MLK then it can't be "legally"
transferred. If it says FPP, transfer away without any "legal" issue.
