Using Outlook vs OE 6

S

sheana

Hi,

I have very large folders.. and yes, I know this is the kiss of death in OE
6. Especially when using the find feature and trying to move large numbers
of emails.

I never became as familiar with Outlook - therefore in light of the problems
I'm having with OE, I want to use Outlook to archive all my emails and
conduct searches. OE 6 from now on will be kept light.

My problem is I don't know how to backup Outlook, don't really understand
the difference between a profile and an identity, and what aliases are.

I don't know what the file name or store folder for Outlook is. What is the
equivalent to .dbx for Outlook?

I know I've asked some of these questions before, but I still don't
understand it. Please explain or provide links that will help me with this.
Thanks in advance.

Your goal is to archive your email in Outlook but continue to use OE? I
wouldn't - archived mail can only be read in Outlook if you do that.

Create a new folder in OE, move mail to is then save the resulting DBX and
remove it from OE. Or get an archive tool that runs with OE.

See http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/faqs/how.htm#archive or google for
tools.

Diane, thank you for your help. Can you still give me the steps to backup
Outlook? I would like to become as familiar with Outlook as I am with OE.
Especially with the equivalent in Outlook as .dbx files are to OE. Do you
have a link or the steps for that? Thanks in advance.

Outlook uses a pst. ! file for everything - mail, calendar, contacts etc.

Diane,

I know how to find the link to the newsgroup, but can you tell me the exact
steps to "pointing" my newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com? Don't I still have
to select the exact newsgroup in the "To:" section of the news message, i.e.,
in the New Message dialogue box, under "newsgroups" select the group I wish
to correspond with, for instance "microsoft.public.outlook"? Thanks in
advance, sheana

tools, accounts, Add... newsgroup account. Use msnews.microsoft.com for the
server name. After the acct is configured it will ask to download the
groups and you can subscribe to the groups you want.
