Using Part Time resources

I am sure there has been past discussion on this subjct and if anyone
will point me to the topic I would be grateful. My question is what
is the process to add partial resources, e.g. I need a programmer for
25% of his time to a task? And what are the consequences of adding a
partial resource VS a FTE in how MSp calculates work and displays it
in the Gantt Chart View?
Thanks!

The percentage a resource is assigned to a task is the rate at which time
spent is converted to useful work effort. Assume Joe Resource works an
8-hour day and our task requires 2 hours of FTE work. So if you need Joe
Resource's full attention for 2 hours, the task duration is 2 hours and his
assignment level is 100%. Or if Joe can spread it over a full day if he
wishes, deciding for himself how he'll work it in among the other things he
has to do that day, you can make the task 8 hours duration and assign Joe to
it at 25%. Now if Joe doesn't work full time but instead is a part time
employee working less than 8 hours a day the same considerations apply but
now you need to set up his calendar to reflect the actual times he's on the
property - if he works 4 hours per day, leaving his calendar at 8 hours and
saying he's only available 50% doesn't do it because you could conceivably
use him 100% of that 4 hours.
