Using Pictures in Adobe Photoshop

L

LadyT

Hello,
I'm new to Adobe Photoshop. I would like to remove the background from a
photo. Will someone tell me how to complete this task? Many thanks.

Brucels

There are a number of different ways to do this, but you would probably get
better information if you asked the question in an Adobe Photoshop forum.
This one is devoted to Microsoft Publisher.

You can edit points to rid the background. It is a long, tedious process in
Publisher but it can be done. Photoshop is a powerful program that should make
the operation easy.

As Mary says it *could* be done but you need to remember that Publisher is
not a photo-editing program so the tools that allow you do do that aren't
the greatest.

I would suggest you visit the Photoshop newsgroup hosted by Adobe. Those
folks will be able to help you develop the skills you need for Photoshop.
After all, you've just paid several hundred dollars for a program - might as
well get your money's worth.

Is there any MS software available that will permit you to edit photos -- now
that MS has ruined PictureIT, we can no longer soften edges, print a photo in
sepia -- just simple tasks. Don't do enough to justify the cost of Adobe
PhotoShop. Use Adobe Pro 8.1 and paid a lot of $ for that.

Running Vista.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've heard good noises about Photoshop Elements - not Microsoft, but
less expensive than the full Photoshop.

Paint.NET (www.getpaint.net) and IrfanView are both free and both do sepia.

http://en.irfanview-forum.de/vb/showthread.php?t=82 suggests ways of
softening edges of images with Irfanview.

Microsoft have a long history of killing simple photo editing tools.

There'a a 60 day trial version of Digital Image
Suite that you can download from the following
link. It will do the task you describe and it will
run on Vista. In case you are not aware...
MS Digital Image is the successor to Picture It!.

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006
http://tinyurl.com/28loxr
(this product line has been
discontinued but you can still
download the Starter Version
and run it for 60 days)

Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and it does
not include the clipart and pre-formatted
projects.

Even though the Picture It! / Digital Image
products have been discontinued there is no
reason why users cannot continue to enjoy
their current programs.

Copies of "Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006
Anniversary Edition" can usually be found
online at sites like Amazon and eBay.

I am going to download the software you recommended as soon as I get home.
Right now I am at my office.

I did visit the trial version site, but was concerned about downloading it
and then not being able to buy it. We have never purchased anything on eBay,
but will try Amazon if it does as you say.

Thanks for the info.

We have an older version of Elements, not too impressed with it.

Thanks for your quick response anyway.

What you want to do is a rather sophisticated technique involving vector
clipping paths - and has nothing to with Word or MS product at all, so this
is not the place to be asked or answered:)

I'd suggest you (a) Review the tutorials & other training info that came
with Photoshop, (b) invest in additional books and/or classes, and (c) post
any specific questions on Adobe product to the appropriate Adobe forum. They
are listed at the following link although there are others available hosted
by different sites:

Just had to thank you for the recommendation. We downloaded the trial version
last night, and it does exactly what we need -- three clicks of the mouse and
a horrible looking photo became a piece of art.

Now my problem is finding the software. I checked Amazon.com and was
referred to Circuit City. They don't have it in the store nor in their
catalog.

I've never purchased anything on eBay. Don't even know where to begin.

Any other ideas as long as I'm picking your brain?

I'm happy to know Digital Image worked for you...

As for purchasing a copy of: "Microsoft Digital
Image Suite 2006 Anniversary Edition". You will
certainly have to be the judge of where to make
your purchase but all I can suggest is that you
continue to check with Amazon and eBay...

FWIW...I just did a search and found copies on
both sites.

It may even be worth a try to do a general search
on Google.

You could also try purchasing a copy of:
"Microsoft Digital Image Suite Plus" which is
Digital Image Suite 2006 and a copy of Pinnacle
Studio v10 video editing software that installs
as a separate program. With this version of Digital
Image you would need the Vista compatibility patch.
