well as an architect I have done just that, using excel among other software
for some time now.
I was recently turned into the microsoft project software, and noticed that
there are a few templates for it, but none regarding the construction area.
for someone who is just starting to get a handle on the MS project software
(like me), a template of these sorts would make a significant timesaver
regarding the use of MS project.
With that elaboration, easier to assist you. Googling "microsoft project
templates" gets
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/CT101527321033.aspx?av=ZPJ,
amongst other things. I don't what version of Project you have, but my
version (2002) has under Menu: File/New, "New from template", "General
Templates", templates for Commercial Construction and Residential
Construction. These were installed with the software install.
I hope you find Project, even if used without these templates, will be a
much better and productive use of your time for managing information
related to projects than Excel or other tools. With Excel, you have to
do it all yourself and the odds of getting it all right, effective, etc.
are low. Managing information about projects is not simple.
