Using the Enterprise Global template

Having defined my Enterprise Global Template, how do i
base new projects on this? New projects are based on my
local global template, rather than on the enterprise
global, even though i am connected to Project Server - any
ideas ??

I think you have misunderstood the function of the Enterprise Global
template, which is to enforce enterprise custom features in your company's
project management environment. These features include any or all of the
following items found in the Organizer: Views, Tables, Filters, Groups,
Fields, Reports, Modules (macros), Toolbars, Calendars, and Maps.

When a user logs into Microsoft Project Server through Microsoft Project
Professional, the user's Global.mpt file and your company's Enteprise Global
file are both opened in the background and merged into a single file. This
merged file contains both the user's personal features (Views, Tables, etc.)
AND your company's custom enterprise features (Views, Tables, etc.). If the
user's Global.mpt file contains a custom personal feature that has the same
name as an enterprise feature, then the enterprise feature will replace the
personal feature.

Here's how it works: My company wants every project manager to use a
special customized version of the Tracking Gantt view to analyze project
progress each week. This special View should display the Variance table,
but with the columns arranged in a different order. To address this need,
the Project Server administrator would first make a copy of the Variance
table, name the new Table according to the company's enterprise naming
convention, and then arrage the columns in the correct order. Then the PS
admin would make a copy of the Tracking Gantt view, name the new View
according to the company's enterprise naming convention, and then change the
table used in the View to the custom Variance table. The PS admin would
then save and close the Enterprise Global, and then exit Microsoft Project.

The next time that anyone logs into Project Server in our company's
enterprise environment, he/she would automatically receive the new View and
Table found in the Enterprise Global. This View could then be applied in
any project by any project manager. This new View and Table could also be
seen in the Organizer in the "cached global" side of the dialog box.

Also, the Enterprise Global should not contain either tasks or resources,
and is not used for generating the inital task list the way that traditional
project templates do. I suspect this is what you were expecting, but this
is not the purpose of the Enterprise Global. Hope this helps.
