version history of winword.exe

Hi,

I am trying to write a script that checks what version of office is
installed, including which SP is applied.
The office versions I want to check is just about all of them from Office 98
and forward until 2003 with patches, whatever there is.

I thought the easiest way to do it would be to check the file version of
winword.exe since it seems to change for every version and update. The
problem is - I can't find a version history of winword.exe :)

Does anyone know where I could find such a version history? Or one per
office version would be equally great.

Or does anyone have a better idea what to check to detemine version and
servicepack of the office version?

Thanks in advance.

The easiest way of finding out the version number of winword.exe is
Application.Build.

It's a bit easier (and efficient) than using a FileSystemObject. That
webpage didn't work for me, so I could see what it does. Might be my
corporate firewall intefering though...
