Wrong! The next version of Microsoft Office is
scheduled for release late in 2009. It will not be called
Office 2008.

Office 2008 for Mac was released in December 2007.
That hardly answers the OP's question of "upcoming"
new versions of Office.

[Is there another due soon?]

Please pay attention!

In addition to the above does anyone know when the online activation
came into effect. Office Xp from what i can work out doesnt require
any online activation. Is this correct?. Was this only brought in
with Office 2007?.

All OEM and retail "genuine" versions of Office XP, Office 2003,
and Office 2007 require product activation.

And actually, in later releases of Office 2000, activation actually occurred.
I bought an early version which didn't require activation, but when I got to
a different job several years later, they had individual licenses and each
had to be activated.
