viewing a slideshow on the laptop

What is the ORDER of turning on LCD projector and laptop?

How do I view my screenshow on the laptop and on the screen that is displayed?

Depends on the projector. "Older" monitors require that you have the
projector running before you turn on your laptop. You could play it safe and
always do it that way.

To view the projection and your laptop simultaneously, hold down your
Function Key and your F8 (to be certain, check the icon on your F-keys - the
correct key will have a monitor icon on it). Each time you do this, the
projector/laptop screen relationship will change.
