Views and saving format of columns

I'm using O2003. I create custom views in a folder, set my columns
widths, etc. and make it available for all mail/post folders. I go to
another folder and apply the view, but the column widths are
different. Am I doing something wrong? If I saved a view with column
widths, shouldn't I be able to apply that view to another folder and
keep the same column widths?
