Visio 2002 Performance Problems with UML Model

Hi

I'm experiencing quite severe problems with a Visio model
that I don't suspect is really that large. The file size
is approx 7Mb and there are around 200 pages within the
model.

When I try to add a new diagram to the model it takes
almost five minutes. I'm running off a hig spec machine
with XP and Task Manager suggests that the processor is
100% occupied throughout these 5 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Visio is a serious memory hog. I experienced the same issue you are and,
long story short, had to go up to 1 gig of ram to resolve it. Every time I
doubled my ram I saw a significant improvement, and at 1 gig the response
time was finally acceptable.

Nowadays one can never have too much ram.

Another thing to try is to remove the printers or change the printer
drivers.
Visio reads in the printer drivers for the text engine when a document is
loaded.

Visio 2002 has a problem with a large number of pages in the document. This
particular bottleneck does not occur in Visio 2000 or Visio 2003. As
Randall mentions below, Visio still consumes quite a bit of memory.
Increasing RAM will improve performance across the board.
