Visio 2003 Pro very, very slow against JDE and Oracle

Lars Wikstrom

Hi,
I am documenting tables in JDEdwards in an Oracle environment and have
big problems with pwerformance.
If I in Visio would like to add an relationsship between two tables it
takes Visio 5-10 minutes to do that. Almost everything I do takes at
least 5 minutes.
My PC have 390 MB of RAM, 3 GB free disk, CPU is 1.8 Mhz. I have
defragmented my disks.

Visio seems to be communication with something. Any ideas?

Best regards Lars

PS. Can I disconnect from the network/database and continue without
the connection to the database as I do not need to update the database
in JDE?

Visio likes a lot of memory... Many of the discussions here mention needing
at least 512M. I use 1G.

You do not need to maintain network connection while using Visio unless you
want to specifically connect to the Oracle server for reverse engineering,
model refresh, etc.

Even though your RAM is on the low side, it seems very odd that creating one
relationship would take an upward of 5 minutes. Is it possbile that you
have a lot of other apps running at the same time? Also, you should see if
your printer setting is appropriately done. There have been known bugs
where incorrectly configured printers can cause redundant pinging to the
printer.
