I have had Visio 2000 installed for a while on a Dell laptop running
Win2K with the latest patches. Originally, I had Visio 5, and kept this
installation while I made sure that Visio 2000 was stable, which was in
2002. I still have Visio 5 installed.
My problem: Whenever I access the Help menu from Visio 2000, the title
bar on the Help file indicates that I am accessing Visio 5 Help. I
looked in the registry and found some entries all pointing to Visio 5
..HLP and .CNT files. I changed the path to point to Visio 2000, but the
Visio 2K help files are all .CHM - so naturally I get an error about not
being able to find the .HLP file.
If I look in my Visio2K directory, I find a Visio.ini file in the System
directory that contains the following:
[application]
StencilPath=Solutions
AddonsPath=Solutions
HelpPath=Help;Solutions
TemplatePath=Solutions
SamplesPath=Samples
If I look in the Help subdirectory and double-click on visio.chm, the
Visio2K help file is opened.
Question: Why does Visio 2K insist on trying to open the old Visio 5
help files which have a .HLP extension? And how can I fix this.
I guess the easist thing to do would be to uninstall Visio 5, and if
necessary, uninstall Visio 2K, then reinstall. However, since the
program (other than Help) is working fine, I hate to do something that
would break Visio.
Can anyone see any reason why I shouldn't just delete both versions an
reinstall Visio 2K, along with SR-1 and Service Pack 2?
