Visio Pro 2003 - Reverse Engineering Available?

Hi all ...

I currently have installed Visio 2000 Pro with XP Sp2 and have
purchased/received Visio Pro 2003 but I have not installed it yet. The
reason is I am confused on the availability of the reverse engineering
functionality and did a search here and only came up with the note
below which was never replied to.

Also, at a client's office they have some users with Visio 2003
standard and some with the Pro version and it seems unavailabe in the
standard but it is functioning in the Pro version? I didn't have a
chance to test the reverse engineering on either machine so any help
will be appreciated on clarifying this for me.

And, if it is not available, is it possible to have both Visio 2000 and
the 2003 Pro version installed on the same machine?

Thanks in advance ... TGH

***previous note circa October 2003
Hi,
I'm using Visio 2003 Pro with SQL Server 2000. The database menu is
missing from the menus. I need to reverse engineer a db. I looked in
the help and it says to:
On the File menu, point to New, point to Database, and then click
Database Model Diagram.
On the Database menu, click Reverse Engineer.

I did this but I still do not see the database menu. Is this a
feature not available in Visio 2003 pro? I looked on Microsoft at the
specs for standard vs pro and one of the features for pro was reverse
engineering. Do any of you have any idea why the database menu is
missing and what I need to do in order to get it?

Thanks,
Tommy

you require either pro or enterprise architect edition to reverse engineer
databases.

Thanks for the reply, Al ... I guess that makes sense that MS folks
would actually provide some benefit to the Pro vs Std. version, but am
wondering if you (or anyone else) has actually verified that the
reverse engineering works in the Pro version?

I am asking because I thought I read somewhere that MS removed
functionality from the 2000 Pro vs the 2003 Pro versions and just want
to make sure I didn't misunderstand since I use it quite regularly to
import Access Db tables for project documentaiton purposes.

Thanks again ... TGH
