Visio Version with Access 2000

I am looking to link a Visio data flow diagram to an Access 2000 database.
As I understand current Visio functionality (2003) version it will link and
allow me to generate the required documentation. I suspect connectors, etc.
may have to be added, but I can determine that at a later date through trial
and error.

My question is since I'm using Access 2000 and have not immediate plans to
upgrade; what version of Visio do I need to integrate the two? I'm looking
for version number (2000, 2002, etc) and level, Basic, Pro, etc.

Thanks for indulging a simple question. The MS website was clear on the
integration of 2003 products, but had no info on backwards compatibility.

Thanks,
Rob Gordon

my experience is that visio moves fairly well between the products. I've
used visio 2002 and 2003 with access 2000, xp(2002), and 2003. I've only
used visio2000 with access 2000.

Al,

Thanks for the feedback. So, it sounds like Visio 2000 through 2003 will
work with Access 2000. Given that and that I am only concerned with
documenting the data flow and data layouts do you think Visio 2000 (or Pro
version) will suffice? Let's face it, 2000 is a lot less expensive than
2003. If the enhancements are not drastic or in the area I need then why
purchase something more costly?

It sounds as if you are asking "can I use Visio 2000 to do Data Modeling of
Access Databases?". That is a different question. Others can probably give a
better answer, but to my knowledge data modeling didn't take off and really
get enhanced until MS took it over with the later versions of Visio getting
a lot of additional focus. I believe that data modeling in V2000 is a
currently unsupported add-on.
