Is publisher 2000 compatible with Vista and what versions and can you update
publisher 2000 with existing product access key to what level?

I use all versions on Vista, some versions work better than others. Not sure I
understand the second part of your question.

What is meant by work better than others, ex. some compatibility issues,
limited functions, performance such as quality of productions of Publisher
and with what version of Vista are we refering as that is the reference I was
making to versions compatibility as I mentioned it was Publisher 2000
enquired on (I was trying to be brief) and the second part is asking if I
have a key or id reference number required to operate my particular version
(registered) to me, will I be allowed to upgrade from 2000 to say 2003 or
even to 2007 say via microsoft update or even downloading a trial of 2007 and
enter my key, that is registration number from the 2000 version to activate
the new version, legally of course, if it will even work, I suppose we could
even go on to specifics of personal or for business use options.

As near as I can tell, Publisher 2000 does not lose anything in Vista. I've had
two versions of Vista (Home and Ultimate), Publisher 2000 worked okay on both. I
will admit I seldom use it anymore. However, there are times when I am asked to
convert a publication to the 2000 version and I can do this without issue.
A product code number is good only for the original product, it cannot be used
for subsequent versions. The trial versions come with their own product codes.
