Visual Studio.NET or FrontPage

D

David

I'm new to web page design, so I have to ask someone:
Should I start with FrontPage or Visual Studio.NET? Aren't they basically
the same thing? Thank you for any advice you can give,
David

Both can be used to develop powerful web sites but .net is a programmers
tool for the most part and would be overkill if all you want to do is create
some basic web pages.

..net has a really steep learning curve and FrontPage is pretty easy to get
up and going... not to mention the excellent support you can get from these
newsgroups.

imo... get started with FrontPage... get the bug.... and then progress to
..net and learn asp.net and perhaps vb.net and become the coolest person on
your block! < s >

Best to you.......

Thanks Tom; I really appreciate your input. You people in the Newsgroups are

FrontPage. Visual Studio.Net is a programming tool set, not a web design
tool set.

The designer devs would tend to disagree with you. :)

Really? Have you tried using the Web Designer in VS.Net? It's the talk (or,
rather, curse) of the town over in ASP.Net-Land!

I use FrontPage to do my HTML, and paste it into VS.Net to do the
programming. I just wish they'd replace the HTML editor in VS.Net with some
flavor of FrontPage!

Have I tried? Yes. I use it often in my real job. :)

I agree that it doesn't match FrontPage in ease of use in many areas.
However, it is a Web design tool.

In Whidbey, the designer was rewritten and is much better.

Well, Notepad is also a Web Design tool. And more reliable than the VS.Net
Designer! ;-)

I'm looking forward to VS.Net 2005. I have the beta, but it is too buggy to
evaluate at this point.

Beta 1 and the refresh are quite stable. Beta 2 is much improved in
performance.
