web pictures not appearing

Sam

Hi all,
I have a real mystery here. I have copied from a document that was
originally in html format then pasted into word. Everything fine but when I
send this document to someone else all they see is a red cross where the
picture was!
How can I resolve this?
Most grateful.

Most Web pages and other HTML documents don't have graphics embedded; the
graphics are just links to external files. A "Web page" is therefore really
a page of text with a supporting folder of graphics. When you save a Word
document as a Web page, you'll get (depending on your settings) either
graphics in the same folder with the HTML file or (by default) in a
supporting folder named <filename>_files. Unless you send this folder with
the document, the graphics will not be available.

Hi Sam,

If you're sending the document as a .DOC file
then before saving see if using Edit=>Links,
selecting all of the items and breaking the links
to store the graphics in the document helps.

Is there any way around this i just need to send the pictures? <<

What version of Word is this? In Word 2003, you can choose File - Save As -
Single File Web Page, and everything will be kept in a single .mht file. In
Word 2002, use File - Save As - Web Archive.

They will then be able to view the resulting file either with Word or with
most browsers.

If you're sending this as a Word document, embed (unlink) the pictures by
selecting each one and pressing Ctrl+Shift+F9.

While this worked for me, it only worked for the pictures that were visible
on the screen. It did not work for any of the pictures on other pages or
even the pictures on the same page that were "off screen". Is there a work
around for this?

Hi Lance,

What version of Word are you using? If the graphics are
not formatted as 'inline with text' then Edit=>Links
won't find the graphics to change them, but otherwise
that feature isn't page specific as far as locating graphics.

I'm using 2000. I was able to accomplish what I needed but I had to make
sure the picture links I was breaking were actually visible on the screen.
It was only 8 pages long so it wasn't a huge deal.
