Website Graphics Quality

The images that I have included in a website document
lose their quality (become choppy/jagged/grainy) when I
export the document to a web page.

And, even though I allow PNG files, they are converted to
GIF format during the web page export.

Any thoughts?

I'm using 2002. I have a png image not overlapping or
touching or near anything EXCEPT that it is on a shaded
page background (hmmm...there's a thought). I'm aware of
the conversion to gif when you group images and
images/text (stumbled on that one months ago). But, this
one is perplexing. I went through David's webpage before
I posted this. I also visited some other sites including
the MS Pub2002 knowledge base on the MS support site. I
don't see it covered. I assume that's just how it works,
but I thought I'd check with the experts. Anything you
guys can offer up, I'll try. Thanks much for your help!

Ed/David,

I created a new doc called "png test.pub". It has the
same png file in the center of the page. There are no
other objects and no background. The "Allow PNG files"
is checked. After the page is exported to HTML, the
image in the HTML doc is "image001.gif". It's jagged.

I can't think of a purer test. Can you guys duplicate
this problem? Any other ideas?
