What is e-mail "type"?

S

Stephanie Scott

Every once in a while I want to send an e-mail without
permanently including that address in my Contacts or
Address Book. It asks me for the "e-mail type" and wants
a "value" placed in the field. What is this and how do I
know which value to use?

Thanks for your help.

What version of Outlook? Where and when is it asking you for the e-mail
type?

Hi, Jocelyn!

I'm using Outlook 2002, part of the Microsoft Office XP
suite.

I select New message; the box for "To, "Cc," etc., pops up
showing my list of e-mail addresses (from Contacts, in my
case); I select "New" from the box at the lower left; the
New Entry box shows an option "In this message only"; when
that is selected, up pops the final box with "Name," "E-
mail address," and "E-mail type," which must be filled in.

Perhaps I'm going about this in the wrong way and perhaps
I don't undertstand the path I'm following. What I know
about Outlook is what I learn as I go!

Thanks for your help.

If you need to send to an e-mail address you don't need to save, just type
it into the To field. No need to go into your Address Book at all. You
will notice, though, that if you have "Suggest names while completing To,
Cc, and Bcc fields" checked in Tools | Options | Preferences tab | E-mail
Options | Advanced E-mail Options, the address you type in may pop up later
if you start typing a similar one into the To (or Cc or Bcc) field. This is
because the AutoComplete feature works against addresses you type in, rather
than your Contacts folder. If this happens, just point to the address that
pops up and hit Delete -- it shouldn't come up again.
