what is "Feature ID not registered" when I try to open email atta

Mike D.

When I try to open email attachments in Outlook (using MS Office Professional
2003), I get an error message that "Feature ID not registered". Microsoft
acts like they have never seen it, as it is not in the Knowledge base.

Each program, Word, Excel, etc indicates that it IS registered (click on
"help", then "activate product").

Please help. Microsoft won't help me.

So what are the filetype(s) of the attachment(s)? Maybe they aren't
Office-recognized filetypes.

Did you try using the Detect and Repair under the Help menu? You'll
need the Office install CD (or point at a networked distribution install
path).

Maybe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302003/en-us applies in your
situation, but that means you didn't provide some critical details to us
about your environment.

Registration of a "control program" or server application is NOT the
same as registering the license for a product. Registering the product,
in this case, means adding definitions to the registry (register ...
registry ... get it?). That's why I mentioned the repair menu above.
Could be you may also have to [re]apply the latest Office (and Windows)
service packs.

Hi, thanks for the response.

It does it on Word and Excel.

I have not tried detect and repair. It used to work / open but now it
doesn't. I didn't change anything.
