What program/application opens a .jpg file?

I received a .jpg file via email but cannot open it. what program or
application must I use to open it? Once open, how can I copy the image into a
Word document?

A .jpg file is an image file. Any image / picture viewer / editor can open
it. To "copy" it into Word, easiest way is to Insert it directly. See Insert
menu in Word's menubar and choose Picture from a file.
