What version should I buy?

Bible John

I have a 1999 Compaq laptop (PII, Win 98SE, 266mhz) and I may want to
buy frontPage. I realize I am going to have to go ebay to find what I am
looking for.

What I am looking for is a web editor thats good, and can upload files
through the editor and not rely on a external FTP application. My
website is (www.cerm.info) and I need an updated web editor. I am
currently using the 1997 version of Claris Home Page which was
discontinued 10 years ago.

Can anyone recommend to me the latest version of Front Page for Windows
98 and can you tell me if it will work for my website?

Thanks,

John

The last version of FrontPage for Win98 is FP2002.
FP will use HTTP to publish if your site has FrontPage extensions,
otherwise it will use FTP.
Some FTP servers do not work well with FrontPage, so it's a case of try
it and see.

FrontPage is a tool - how well it works with any web site is a function
of the skill of the user.

How is Http different for website uploading than FTP? With CHP I just
edit the article and click upload and it sends the new version to the
FTP server.

True. But even the best web designer in the world would be slowed down
with Claris Home Page (1997) which is what I am using.

Using HTTP allows FrontPage to edit live on the server, publish from the
server to PC, Publish from PC to server, and keep track of all changes
and publishing operations. With extensions and HTTP publishing a change
to an include file (or shared-border) can be made by uploading just the
included file or shared-border file, whereas FTP will require every file
affected by the included/shared-border file to be uploaded.
Forms using the FP extensions must be HTTP published.

FWIW - there's not a heck of a lot of difference in FP2000, 2002,
2003. Some minor convenience improvements, bug fixes, and bug
introductions.
