when i close outlook it still downloads messages can I fix this

Outlook is downloading messages even when I close the program doesn't stop
unless i turn the computer off. I can't figure out what I did.
help please

No program can do anything when it is not running. So, no, Outlook is
NOT downloading anything when it is not running.

Minimizing Outlook to a tray icon is NOT exiting Outlook. If you don't
want Outlook running then you really will need to exit Outlook.
