when i open a new memo i get non printable gridlines

in word when opening a new memo the memo appears but so does a grid over all
of the text. I have tried to look for somewhere where i can turn these off
as they are very off putting. Also these only appear when I work in print
layout (this is the view which I like to work in). Also they do not appear
when i do a print preview.
It would be good to be able to get rid of these.
Anybody with any suggestions would greatly be appreciated

In Word, display the Drawing toolbar if it isn't already displayed (View
| Toolbars | Drawing), and click on Draw | Grid | uncheck the "Display
gridlines on screen" box | OK.
