when I try to install office 2003, my computer crashes & reboots

You need to get to the root cause of your pc's crashing & rebooting.
Right-Click the My Computer icon on desktop. Select Properties.
Next, select Advanced. Look for a block that says Startup and recovery. Press the settings button.
In System failure section, turn off (un-check) Automatically restart. Apply change.

This will remove the default reboot on fatal error. You'll then see a STOP error & text the next time a fatal error occurs.
Be sure to write down the STOP code & complete text.
