Where are hstory files kept?

Office 2000/W2000: Word keeps looking for what appears to be temporary or
files in its history. one was a deleted desktop link, the other some sort of
temporary file. Did detect/repair, uninstall, reinstall, Registry fix using
SystemSuite, nothing worked:still hunting for these files when it starts.
How do I get rid of it?
