Where does exchange store email attachments?

Are attachments to emails stored in the mail boxes or seperated to another folder?

If an email with an attachment is sent internally to several recipients, is the attachment stored several times?

Thanks.

In mailbox and Exchange does single instance storage. (e.g. if UserA sends
a message w/ attachment to 20 people all on Exchange Server "A", then only
one copy of the message w/ attachment is stored. If 20 people are spread
out on Exchange Servers "A", "B", and "C", then 1 copy is stored on each
server. Each mailbox is linked to the copy stored on that server. This
example can get more complex if we start discussing Exchange 2000/2003 and
its ability to have 2 or more mailbox stores.)

There are things that can break single instance storage. (e.g. Export
contents of mailbox using exmerge, delete mailbox, create new mailbox, and
import contents is enough to break single instance storage.) Using the Move
Mailbox option in Exchange doesn't break single instance storage.
