Where's my reference command?

I have been trying to insert a reference at the bottom of one of my slides
but havn't been able to figure it out even with the help menu. I found one
thing that said to go to the Insert menu then go to the reference command,
but I don't have a reference command. Am I just at a loss or are there ways
around this? thanks in advance,

PPT doesn't have a footnote or specific reference type function like Word
does. Basically, you'd just add a textbox and type in the reference.

The RnR add-in Shape Styles might come in handy for this.
