Why Access?

I am creating a stock control system, and will end up using access, but I
have to consider other possibilities, including excel and word. I was just
wondering if anyone could rate Access's performace please? In particular how
well it performs tasks, how often it crrashes etc. Does anyone find Access
excellent to use? and why? Thanks!.. Also, can anyone tell me in no uncertain
terms why Access is the best program to use when designing a stock control
system? Thanks!

Poni,

Word is a word processing program, so you use it for word processing.
Excel is a spreadsheet program, so you use it when you need spreadsheet
functionality. Access is a database application tool, so you use it for
building data management systems. Your stock control system is a data
management system, so Word and Excel are not applicable to this task,
and Access is. Well, it is unless you are talking about a system that
has requirements that are beyond Access's capabilities, for example on a
very large scale with multiple concurrent users. As for performance, it
is very difficult to generalise. Suffice to say that I have been
involved in many Access applications, and seen many others built by
other people, that have served their intended purpose superbly. Most
people find it a steepish learning curve to become proficient at Access
development... that's not exclusive to Access, I think that's applicable
to any database application development work. But most people also find
that Access can build a given application much faster than can be
achieved with alternative tools.
