Why cant I search for files unless I'm connected to internet?

Whenever I want to search for keywords in a file or folder on my computer, I
cant access the 'search' function unless I am connected to the internet. I
get a message that search companion cannot be found, run setup which i have
done aqnd it still doesnt solve my problem. Can anyone please help me?
