Why can't I see pictures in my PPT presentation?

I have a ppt presentation with pictures pasted in from excel and other
sources that I can not see. I am using XP Pro with Office 2003.

First thing I would suggest is to check and see if you have Office 2003's
SP1 installed. Instructions for this and other things to do before you use
PPT can be found in this entry from Steve Rindsberg's PPT FAQ:
